WiN Reactors

As the global community faces the urgent challenge of climate change, nuclear energy is re-emerging as a vital alternative for achieving climate neutrality and a clean energy transition.

In particular, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are attracting significant worldwide attention as a key game-changer in the future energy market, offering enhanced safety, flexible deployment, and strong potential for sustainable development.  However, successful deployment requires more than just technical readiness. It demands robust regulatory frameworks, effective policy coordination, public trust, and a skilled, diverse workforce.

WiN Reactors is an expert group established under WiN Global dedicated to supporting the safe, inclusive, and responsible development of nuclear reactors worldwide, with a special focus on SMRs.

By uniting women professionals from across policy, technology, regulation, finance, public engagement, and operations, WiN Reactors fosters international collaboration and knowledge exchange. Our goal is to empower women’s leadership and expertise across the reactor ecosystem, driving diversity, equity, and innovation in the global nuclear sector.

The Women in Nuclear Law Initiative (WiNLI) was launched in March 2023 under the framework of the partnership between WiN Global and the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA). This partnership was launched in September 2022 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the NEA and WiN Global to further strengthen the common objective of both to improve gender balance in the nuclear sector.

Mission

WiN Reactors seeks to advance the safe, inclusive, and responsible global deployment of nuclear reactors by empowering women professionals to actively contribute to leadership, policy, technology, regulation, and public engagement.

Role of WiN Reactors Partners

WiN Reactors operates under the framework of WiN Global and is supported by national WiN chapters and partner organizations. These partners facilitate international cooperation, support knowledge-sharing activities, and promote WiN Reactors initiatives within the global nuclear community. Their engagement strengthens our visibility and impact across all regions.

Why WiN Reactors?

While nuclear reactors and SMRs offer significant benefits for clean energy and energy security, countries face complex challenges in regulation, financing, and public acceptance. WiN Reactors was created to address these multidimensional challenges by building a global network of women experts who can lead informed, inclusive, and responsible development worldwide.

Objectives

  • Support leadership development and mentoring of women professionals in reactor-related fields.
  • Facilitate international knowledge-sharing on policy, regulation, technology, and public engagement.
  • Promote inclusive and responsible deployment through global collaboration and best-practice exchange.
